All Things Mochi – SS18 NYFW Presentation

My NYFW Experience

Last week, I traveled to New York City for the day in order to attend the Mochi SS18 NYFW presentation. I was drawn to this brand because the pieces are handcrafted by local artisans using traditional methods of embroidery. I love a company that gives back while being wholesome and transparent. It is amazing to hear All Things Mochi is supporting local talents, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life in some of these countries.

The latest collection is from Mexico and they labeled the event #FiestaDelaMochi and it was exactly that!. As soon as I stepped into the showroom, I was greeted by the sounds of a cheery Mexican song playing in the background and a jovial display of papier-mâché and colorful sombreros strung from the ceiling. Mochi’s founder and designer, Ayah Tabari, was animately bustling around the showroom, shaking hands and answering questions about the collection. Not to mention, they had a lovely staff handing out frozen cocktails, actual cocktails, tacos and Mochi handcrafted bracelets made in Guatemala.

The Mochi SS18 NYFW collection itself was so beautiful and it immediately made me want to don one and head off to beach despite the autumnal vibes outside of the showroom. Obviously, there was a lot of tasteful embroidery present in each look using a plethora of colors. I loved the repeat of vertical stripes within the outfits as well because they paired so well with the bright hues. Also, a lot of respect for the diversity among the models present!

I had a lot of fun attending this Mochi SS18 NYFW presentation! Prior to the invite, I never heard of Mochi before, but am so glad it is now on my radar. I think more fashion brands should choose to be more ethically conscious like this one has!

Although my time in NYC was short, it was jam-packed and a lot of fun. In addition to the presentation, I met up with a photographer, some friends and managed to get some New York style thrifting in (yay)! Stay tuned for outfit photos from my #NYFW trip!
