Happy October 1st! Now that the temperature has been cooling off ever so slightly, I have finally transitioned into that autumnal mindset. Bring on the cozy knit sweaters, jeans and beanies. Fall is definitely my favorite season, especially when it comes down to fashion.
However, I am not the type of person to physically transform my wardrobe by putting away my more spring/summer attire. I like to just leave everything out and accessible because you never know when it will come in handy!
Thus, I try my best to take advantage of every article of clothing for this transition period. I was not quite ready to let go of this gorgeous, silky midi-length dress that I thrifted yet. It is quite bright but I wanted to find a way to tone it down for the current season.
Toughen it Up
One of the easiest ways to transition a summer dress into a fall outfit is to toughen it up so it is not so girly. If you know my style, I don’t necessarily gravitate towards bright colors or floral patterns. However, I managed to find a way to adapt it to my tastes. To do so, I layered a faux-leather moto jacket on top to act as a sharp contrast between the delicate fabric of the dress.
Boots for Every Occasion
Every fall and winter season, I find the item I most rely on is my black booties. These shiny heeled boots with buckle hardware were my go-to last year and I continue to rock them now! Come fall time, I find booties compliment just about every outfit – even this summery dress. By pairing it with a fall accessory, it transitions the outfit completely, making it much more seasonally appropriate.
I am all about maximizing the pieces you already have in your wardrobe. So think twice before packing up your summer garb away for the next couple of months. You would be surprised at the amount of items you can wear in fall and beyond!
