10 Layering Jackets to Build a Fall Wardrobe

Please understand that Autumn is absolutely my favorite time of year, especially in terms of fashion and this is why I will not let this topic go! I was driving to work the other day and noticed the leaves are beginning to turn vibrant shades of crimson and copper and I immediately busted out all my layering jackets. Last week’s post addressed the biggest Fall trend — the plaid blazer. This week I wanted to share a couple of more casual, transitional coats you need to build up a great fall wardrobe!

Slight Chill

Ultimately, these coats are lighter-weight, which makes them perfect for layering. The jacket I am wearing in these photos is a men’s track jacket I found at Buffalo Exchange in Manhattan. The red stripe and the graphic on the back really caught my eye, even though I had no idea what Drakkar Noir is – haha! A quick Google search indicated that it is a men’s fragrance by the brand Guy Laroche. When it comes to outerwear, I always think bigger is better, which is why I was totally digging this oversized fit. Although I am wearing it with a crop top here, you can easily throw on a long-sleeve or a sweater underneath for chillier days.

Getting Colder

Naturally, if we are discussing layering jackets, I obviously need to pay homage to the denim jacket. This is seriously one of my go-tos when it comes to layering in autumn! You cannot get more versatile and classic than a staple denim coat. Again, I think oversized is the best way to go for a casual, relaxed vibe. However, you can switch it up and opt for a different cut and unexpected color like this cropped mustard denim jacket I thrifted. I actually just wore this out this past weekend in NYC!

Winter is Coming

This last category is for a few weeks from now, when Autumn is dissipating (sadly) and when winter is indeed coming. This means, we need to opt for something a bit heavier than a standard track or denim coat. Last season, one of my favorite layering jackets was this tan, suede coat with faux-fur trim. The neutral color made it so easy to pair with any outfit and the details on the jacket just made everything pop and standout.

I have said it before, but I’ll say it again! Jackets are something I personally horde because 1) I am always cold 2) It’s a great way to add some character and style to any outfit. Layering season is upon us ladies! Let’s take advantage, shall we?
